The MC33152P is a high-performance power metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) gate driver IC. It is designed to drive power MOSFETs, insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) and other type of power switches. This IC is specifically designed for AC and DC high-side and low-side load switching applications such as in motor control, AC/DC converters, power supplies, hot plug COTS applications and other related power conversion applications. This IC has a high level of integration, which offers superior performance in terms of switching on- and off-times, temperature and voltage protection, gate drive capability operating under high power density and very low EMI and radiated spectral emissions.
The MC33152P is specifically designed for professional power management and gate driver applications. It is highly suitable for high switch speed applications and provides fast switching times for high power load switching with minimal ringing. Furthermore, the MC33152P offers thermal protection, under voltage lockout and over voltage protection for improved reliability and circuit protection.
The MC33152P offers a high level of integration including a MOSFET driver, body diode protection, under-voltage lockout, emergency shutdown, and thermal protection. It is designed for AC and DC high-side and low-side load switching applications, such as in motor control, AC/DC converters, power supplies, hot plug COTS applications, and other related power conversion applications.
The MC33152P power MOSFET gate driver has a built-in Miller clamp which prevents the output voltage from exceeding the input voltage. This function, known as the clamping action, prevents any voltage surge to exceed the safe operating conditions of the power switch.
The working principle of the MC33152P is based on a smart level shifter which senses the low side MOSFET body diode voltage. When the MOSFET body diode voltage is below the minimum threshold level, the level shifter will force the gate driver in an "OFF" state. This ensures that the low side MOSFET is not activated at turn on and turn off, protecting the power switch from extreme condition. When the MOSFET body diode voltage is above the minimum threshold, the level shifter will turn ON the gate driver for both high side and low side MOSFETs. Additionally, the MC33152P offers adjustable high side dead time delay and exact gate turn-on for both high side and low side MOSFETs.
The MC33152P is also equipped with a high side/low side body diode protection function. This function will protect the power MOSFET body diode when the voltage exceeds the maximum current rating of the body diode. Additionally, the MC33152P provides a wide range of safety features, including thermal protection and current limit protection, which ensure that the MOSFETs are operated within their safe operating area.
