Application Field
MC3486NG4 is primarily designed for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint data communication systems like LAN, medical equipment, battery charger and automotive networks and many more light industrial application areas. The module adopts a typical half-duplex structure based on the driver, receiver and controller circuitry, making it suitable to have a low current consumption respect to other transceivers. It is able to transmit data rates up to 250Kbit/s and be used in applications that require high data rate accuracy, low noise and wide range of operating temperatures.
Working Principle
MC3486NG4 is composed of three components: driver, receiver and controller. The driver is responsible for transmitting data from the controller over long distances. The receiver is in charge of receiving data from the driver. And the controller will act as an intermediary between the driver and the receiver by processing data. This communication process is done continuously and accurately. The controller controls the direction of data transmission and sends signals to the driver and receiver, allowing them to transmit and receive data in certain formats.
The transceiver has a configurable power sequential system which reduces the power consumption by controlling the driver, receiver, and controller state thus to extend the battery life of the device. The driver has an adjustable current that provides three work modes - standby, half drive and full drive - so that it can reduce the power consumption of the device and reduce the temperature. The receiver has an adjustable gain parameter and a low noise figure which keeps a high signal-to-noise ratio. The controller has a configurable baud-rate and built-in line-error-detection and line-error-correction technology to ensure reliable data transmission.
For improved reliability, the transceiver supports robust ESD (electrostatic discharge) protection which can withstand up to 8kV static electricity discharge. The board is built with double-sided surface-mounted technology and provides a wide input voltage range from 2.7-32VDC, getting rid of the need for an additional transformer or DC/DC converter for power supply.
In short, MC3486NG4 is a transceiver that can handle heavy-duty data communication applications with accuracy and with low power consumption and noise. It is a suitable choice for IoT, automotive and industrial applications.
