The MC74HC157ADR2G is a high-speed CMOS Logic-Signal Switch, Multiplexer and Decoder that contains four independant 1-of-2 data selectors/multiplexers with common select (S) and output Enable (OE) pins. Each multiplexer is controlled by a different select (Sx) input pin. When both the select (S) and output Enable (OE) pins are HIGH, the corresponding selected multiplexer passes the data present on the corresponding A and B inputs to its output. When the OE pin is LOW, the output of the selected multiplexer will be in the high impedance state. The logic level on the select (S) input determines which multiplexer the data is passed through. The multiplexer circuit is designed with a Schmitt trigger input in order to provide hysteresis for improved noise immunity.

The MC74HC157ADR2G can also be used as a 1-of-8 data decoder. The select pins (S0-S2) are used to select which output is enabled. When all of the select pins (S0-S2) are HIGH, all outputs are disabled. This allows for a greater overall speed by making the decoder function like a function generator.
