The MC74HC86AFELG is an integrated circuit with a 4-bit binary full adder constructed with MOS technology. Comprised of four inverters, two NAND gates, and a 4-bit look-ahead carry generator, the adder is able to effectively combine two 4-bit binary numbers to generate their sum. It is designed to be used in high speed applications, as it is able to add two reasonably large binary numbers in a single clock cycle. The MC74HC86AFELG is often used in digital applications. For example, it is used in binary counters, arithmetic circuits, and other applications where addition of two numbers is required. It is also used in amplification circuits and frequency dividers, as well as to combine bits together to form parallel words.In terms of its working principle, the MC74HC86AFELG uses an internal look-ahead carry generator to perform its function of adding two 4-bit binary words.
