The MC74LCX257DTR2 is a CMOS 8-bit i/o port expander that has a wide range of applications, ranging from logic-signal switches, multiplexers, decoders and more. The device takes control signals from a single 8-bit bus and expands those signals to control up to eight 8-bit output ports, allowing for increased flexibility and increased capabilities for any system which requires multiple I/O ports.The MC74LCX257DTR2 features two high-speed data transfer modes: push-pull and open-drain. The push-pull mode is used for non-multiplexed data transfer, while the open-drain mode is used for multiplexed data transfer. The MC74LCX257DTR2 also features high current output drivers and an active low reset input to ensure reliable operation.As a logic-signal switch, the MC74LCX257DTR2 provides a wide range of signal output as well as signal input levels. The device is capable of driving up to 40mA outputs, and can switch between low and high current output levels with a voltage range of 0 to 5 Volts. The MC74LCX257DTR2 also has an input threshold range of 0.4 to 4.6 volts, allowing for increased signal compatibility with different types of logic-level signals.As a multiplexer, the MC74LCX257DTR2 provides multiple connection options for data transfer between inputs and outputs. By using a multiplexer, multiple different types of data can be transferred simultaneously.
