The MC78M12CT is a Low Dropout (LDO) three-terminal negative regulator with a high output voltage accuracy and a fast response to transients. When the input voltage exceeds the output voltage by about 1.3V, the LDO begins to regulate the output voltage. In normal operation, the pass element conducts and the output voltage is regulated by means of a voltage divider, composed of an external feedback resistor and an internal reference voltage. The current limit amplifier of the MC78M12CT monitors the output current and limits it to a preset maximum. If the output current exceeds the preset limit, the amplifier turns off the pass element, and the output voltage is limited to the dropout voltage. The MC78M12CT also features a short circuit protection protection circuit to protect the device against short circuits.
