The MCF54415CMJ250 is a 32-bit microcontroller based on the ColdFire Core V2 and the ColdFirePlusCore V1 architecture. This microcontroller has a sophisticated bus subsystem with SRAM/Flash memory, DMA controller, FB-DMA and Power Management Unit (PMU). This device has two 32-bit central processing units (CPUs): the primary ColdFire Core V2 and the secondary ColdFirePlus Core V1 CPU. The Core V2 can run at up to 50MHz while the Core V1 can run at up to 25MHz.
The coldFire Core V2 is designed to offer a high performance, low power and efficient instruction set while the ColdFirePlus Core V1 offers direct access to peripherals and high-speed I/O operations. The ColdFirePlus is also designed to be much more power efficient than the ColdFire core V2 and thus allowing lower power consumption yet higher performance.
The device also has an on-chip Flash memory controller and boot ROM to provide Flash access and bootloader program storage. It also has a 16-bit timer for system scheduling, a 16-bit watchdog timer and a serial peripheral interface (SPI) for communication interface and external device control. Additionally, the device also has an Inter-Integrated Circuit (I2C) interface, a universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter (UART), an analogue-to-digital converter (ADC) and a Quadrature Decoder (QDEC) which are used for data acquisition and communication purposes.
