The MCP1700T-3602E/TT device type is a member of the PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit) family of integrated circuit products that provides an adjustable linear voltage regulation solution for battery powered or externally powered applications. The MCP1700T-3602E/TT voltage regulator combines an adjustable voltage reference and an integrated current control for battery-operated systems and other low-voltage system applications. By placing the voltage reference inside the device, the MCP1700T-3602E/TT eliminates the need for an external voltage reference and simplifies the design task of delivering a stable output voltage over a wide input supply range.
The MCP1700T-3602E/TT is specified to operate over commercial and industrial temperature ranges and has a fixed output voltage range of 2V to 15V with adjustable output voltage between 2V and 10V. The regulator employs an advanced transconductance architecture which allows the device to deliver up to 800 mA at more than 90% efficiency in the most efficient regions of operation while maintaining an excellent line and load regulation capability. The MCP1700T-3602E/TT also provides a 100 mA minimum load current (Dynamic Load Current) and an excellent operational ripple rejection of -50 dB. The device also features an output short-circuit current limit of 1.1A and thermal shutdown protection.
The output voltage of the MCP1700T-3602E/TT can be adjusted by setting the external voltage reference voltage via a feedback voltage loop. The output voltage of the MCP1700T-3602E/TT is determined by the voltage across the internal Voltage Divider RM and RD, and the current through the Zener diode DZ. The internal reference voltage is adjusted by the external resistor connection or the internal divider ratio.
The working principle of the MCP1700T-3602E/TT is to use a PWM control circuit to compare the reference voltage with the voltage across the resistor divider. The output voltage error is then fed back to the reference side through the current control network.
