It employs On-Chip Over-Current Protection (OCP) and Thermal Shutdown (TSD) for monitoring and protection against device over-temperature and over-current conditions. The output voltage is adjustable by a programmable multi-step control and a precision reference.The output is equipped with load current control from 1.2A to 3.35A. The output voltage is defined by the resistor divider network, and the accuracy of the output is maintained by a comparison with the reference voltage driving an internal reference amplifier. This regulator employs an input over-voltage protection (OVP) to protect the device from input voltage overshoot and transients. The MCP1827-3302E/AT features low quiescent current and low dropout over the specified temperature and current ranges to provide a power source with high efficiency---up to 95% in the right conditions.APPLICATION FIELDThe MCP1827-3302E/AT is suitable for a wide range of applications, including LED lighting, wireless connectivity, and power management systems which require precise, stable and reliable voltage regulation. A series of resistors forms a voltage divider to regulate the output voltage and are connected between the output capacitor and the ground pin.The reference voltage is used to monitor the output voltage and compare it with the internal reference voltage. The voltage potential difference between these two sets of voltages drives a reference amplifier, which turns a Pass transistor on or off accordingly. When the signal from the amplifier turns on the Pass transistor, the output voltage is regulated and the transistor will remain on until the voltage reaches the desired level and then mixtures back off. By repeating this process, the output voltage is constantly regulated in accordance with the internal reference voltage.The output voltage is adjustable by a resistor divider network and the adjustable voltage can be pre-set at the factory to any level between 0.8V and 4V. Furthermore, the output current can be programmed by varying the resistance of the current sense resistor.
