The MCP2140-I/SO provides an interface between a microcontroller unit (MCU) and any RS-232 enabled device. As a controller within the Interface - Controllers family, the MCP2140-I/SO is designed to provide reliable data communication for applications such as industrial automation, smart buildings and communication peripherals.
The MCP2140-I/SO is a single-channel transceiver which integrates a full-duplex RS-232 driver and a power RS-232 receiver. The chip provides the necessary functions to control the serial data flow between the microcontroller unit and the RS-232 device, such as setting the serial data rate, detection of data framing errors, and the conversion of standard non-return-to-zero (NRZ) data to Manchester or differential Manchester data.
