The MCT5211SD opto-isolator is a four-channel photo-electric isolator designed for applications requiring the highest level of isolation between two circuits with power or data signals. It consists of an optically coupled silicon-controlled rectifier (SCR) mounted into a 2.8 mm rectangular package, which is RoHS-compliant. Each of the four isolators have a very high insulation-resistance rating of 10¹¹Ω from source to I/O, as well as an 80 dB isolation rating between channels. Additionally, the MCT5211SD operates from a wide supply voltage range from 4.5 to 26V, making it ideal for use in many industrial applications.

The MCT5211SD opto-isolator consists of a photovoltaic output and a switchable transistor output. The photovoltaic output of the device is connected directly to a five pin connector which contains the Collect (C), Emitter (E), Base (B), Gate (G) and Source (S) pins. The Collector pin is connected to the ground plane of the package, and the Emitter is connected to the positive supply voltage. The Base pin is connected to the output of the photovoltaic cell, and is the signal output of the device. The Gate pin is used to connect to the switched transistor output, and the Source is connected to the driver pin.

The working principle of the MCT5211SD opto-isolator is based on the properties of photoconductivity. When light is incident on the opto-isolator, an electric current is generated between the source and the collector.
