Optoisolators - Transistor, Photovoltaic Output
The MCT5211TVM is an optoisolator with transistor-photovoltaic output capable of sensing AC signals down to 5 V AC peak-to-peak amplitude. It offers long-term protection against short-circuits and transients up to 1 kA (1000 Amperes) while maintaining low-level isolation. Additionally, it has a 0.5mA supply current and a very low insertion loss for signals that requires little signal-level attenuation.

The device consists of a collector-mounted, infrared LED optically coupled to a photovoltaic sensing element manufactured on a CMOS process. This design allows the device to operate with a low supply current, minimizing power consumption while increasing device performance. The sensing element is connected to a transistor. When the LED is excited with a voltage-controlled signal, it produces an amplified output voltage signal at the collector of the transistor. The threshold voltage is adjustable with an external resistor.

The MCT5211TVM is used in a variety of applications. It is suitable for switching applications that require a high isolation voltage between input and output lines, such as motor control, permanent waving machines, security systems, and fluorescent lighting.
