MDD95-22N1B is a silicon avalanche diode (SAD) which is used for transient voltage surge suppression. It is widely applied in communication systems, power supplies, medical equipment, automotive systems, and industrial machinery.The construction of the MDD95-22N1B is relatively simple. It consists of a light-emitting diode (LED), an avalanche photo diode (APD) and a photodiode. Its main components are a gallium arsenide active layer sandwiched between two electrodes.The MDD95-22N1B, when operating correctly, can absorb surge voltage and transient voltage in order to protect the system against power failure. Its main function is to protect the system from over-voltage.The MDD95-22N1B array can be used both in unidirectional and bidirectional configurations. In a unidirectional configuration, it eliminates any reverse-bias voltages that might cross its threshold guard point. On the other hand, in a bidirectional configuration, it can protect the system against transient voltages in either direction by limiting the peak voltage to its breakdown voltage.When working correctly, the MDD95-22N1B works by voltage breakdown. As the voltage rises above the breakdown voltage of the diode, a surge of current is generated which dissipates the excess energy in the form of heat, preventing it from reaching the system. In addition, the LED\'s used in this diode array flash when triggered and provide an indication of the voltage level being reached. This allows monitoring of the system to occur.The MDD95-22N1B is an efficient and reliable way to protect against over-voltage.
