The MIC2127AYML-T5 is an efficient, small-footprint DC-DC switching controller that deliversa wide array of solutions for power management. It offers unique functionality for both synchronous and nonsynchronous buck and boost topologies, enabling designers to meet system level power requirements with maximum flexibility. The MIC2127AYML-T5 integrates a dual-mode current sense and feedback architecture, enabling precise control and monitoring of both output and input power. In addition, the MIC2127AYML-T5 features advanced thermal, EMI, and output voltage performance, driving higher efficiency, smaller board space, and lower system costs.

Application Field

The MIC2127AYML-T5 is designed for a variety of synchronous and asynchronous buck, buck-boost, and boost applications. Its fast response and low noise operation make it ideal for applications such as telecom and networking systems, computing and consumer electronics, converters, and avionics.

For example, the MIC2127AYML-T5 can be used in computing and consumer electronics applications to power point-of-load (POL) regulators, with adjustable output voltages for DDR2, DDR3, and GDDR2/3 memory and FPGA/ASIC core rail voltages. It also supports a wide variety of high efficiency, low power, and low noise synchronous and nonsynchronous buck, buck-boost, and boost topologies. In addition, it supports multiple phase paralleling for up to six phases for increased current handling and improved phase balance.

Working Principle

The MIC2127AYML-T5 integrates a dual-mode current sense and feedback architecture, enabling precise control and monitoring of both output and input power. The IC utilizes the Advanced Linear Devices (ALD) SmartFET technology to provide fast and precise control of the output voltage. The internal current sense feedback loop monitors the output current and controls the MOSFETs switching duty cycle according to the programmed output voltage, minimizing the output ripple current. Additionally, the MIC2127AYML-T5 features a 0.5Ω/1.25Ω internal current sense capacitor that reduces the number of external components and simplifies the design.

The MIC2127AYML-T5 also features an advanced adaptive dead-time control that minimizes switching loss and improves light load efficiency. It provides adjustable switching frequency from 150kHz to 1MHz for optimizing efficiency across a wide load range. Furthermore, thehigh speed current mode control schemes allows for greater stability and output accuracy across different topologies. Finally, the on-board temperature protection feature prevents thermal runaway of the system by automatically reducing the output voltage when the die temperature exceeds the programmed level.

In addition, the MIC2127AYML-T5 includes several features to ensure fine-tuned EMI performance. The differential remote voltage sensing connections minimizes noise coupling on the feedback trace, while the comprehensive EMI filter integrated into the IC reduces the radiated EMI. Additionally, the MIC2127AYML-T5 features a Sleep Mode which reduces the current consumption to <1µA, thus minimizing the power and system costs.
