The MIC2176-1YMM-TR is a non-synchronous current-mode buck-boost switching controller designed to provide excellent dynamic and output voltage regulation over a wide range of input voltage and output load conditions. The IC is offered in a 20-pin plastic power SSO (SO-20) package with an exposed pad to improve thermal performance. Built-in features and performance of the MIC2176-1YMM-TR include: output voltage range from 4.5 V to 32 V; high efficiency over the entire operating range; adjustable output voltages; low output voltage ripple; programmable soft-start; low current consumption; current limit, undervoltage lockout, over temperature protection, overvoltage protection, and reverse battery protection; active power-save mode and high-frequency operation of 100 kHz.

Application Field

The MIC2176-1YMM-TR is designed for high-performance portable, telecommunications and industrial applications. Typical applications include DC-DC regulated power supplies in general, off-line adaptor, battery management, notebook motherboards, USB port charging applications, and industrial control systems.

Working Principle

The MIC2176-1YMM-TR includes an inner current-mode control loop. An outer voltage loop controls the output voltage. The current-mode loop is realized through a bandgap voltage reference, an operational amplifier, a power MOSFET, and current sensing circuit. The voltage loop is composed of an operational amplifier, a voltage divider and a MOSFET control Output feedback loop. As the input voltage increases, the MOSFET turns on and the output voltage begins to drop until the feedback voltage falls below a set threshold. The MOSFET will then be turned off until the output voltage rises above the set threshold and the cycle is repeated. In this way, the MIC2176-1YMM-TR is able to adjust the duty cycle of the MOSFET based on the input voltage and the output voltage, providing excellent dynamic and output voltage regulation.

The MIC2176-1YMM-TR includes integrated protection functions such as undervoltage lockout (UVLO), overvoltage protection (OVP), current limit (CL), and over temperature protection (OTP). To ensure power integrity, the MIC2176-1YMM-TR includes additional features such as programmable soft-start, low-current consumption, active power-save mode and high-frequency operation of up to 100 kHz.

By combining high performance, low operating costs and robust feature set, the MIC2176-1YMM-TR is ideally suited for DC-DC power conversion applications.
