Working Principle

The working principle of the MIC29371-12WT is based on the built-in constant comparator, which compares the feedback voltage divided by an internal resistor divider network with an internal reference voltage. A wide input voltage range is achieved using an internal control stage, which prevents the regulator voltage being pulled low, due to large input transistors.

The current limit is set by an external resistor, which provides a very wide input headroom. When a current limit is reached, the regulator current is switched off and only a small leakage current is allowed to flow through the internal circuit. Current limit can be calibrated externally to achieve very accurate current limit of 3A.

The MIC29371-12WT is protected from any overload condition such as short circuit and over current by the over-current protection circuit. It also provides thermal shutdown protection. The thermal shutdown circuit limits the junction temperature to 175°C.

The MIC29371-12WT also provides low noise operation and temperature compensation, adjustable voltage outputs and an operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
