Working Principle

The MIC5219YMM works on the principle of a linear voltage regulator. It is a three-terminal device that uses a low input voltage and a reference voltage to regulate an output voltage. The output voltage of the regulator is determined by the ratio of two external resistors connected to the OUT and ADJ pins. The regulator maintains the output voltage regardless of input voltage fluctuations, load variations, or temperature changes. The regulation is accomplished by operating the error amplifier between the output and reference voltages. When the output voltage falls below the preset value, the error amplifier output voltage increases, causing the reference voltage to be applied to the pass transistor gate, thus increasing the output voltage.

The MIC5219YMM is designed to operate in a wide input voltage range of 5V to 18V and a wide output voltage range of 1.20V to 16.8V. It also features a low dropout voltage of 500mV at a full load and excellent temperature response, ±20mV dropout over the temperature range.
