Working principle

The MIC5253-1.8BC5 is an LDO linear regulator which uses an internal pass transistor to regulate the output voltage. The device output voltage is set using an external voltage divider. The output voltage of the device is set by connecting a reference voltage to the REF pin and two external resistors connected to the ADJ pin. The voltage at the ADJ pin is then compared to the voltage at the REF pin, and if the ADJ pin voltage is higher than the REFpin voltage, the internal pass transistor turns off and the output voltage begins to drop. Conversely, if the ADJ pin voltage is lower than the REF pin voltage, the internal pass transistor turns on and the output voltage starts to rise. The output voltage will be stable when the voltage drop across the pass transistor is equal to the voltage applied to the REF pin.
