MIC5281YMM-TR Application Field and Working Principle
The MIC5281YMM-TR is a low-power high-precision voltage regulator which has numerous applications, most notably in cellular communication systems, embedded systems, and power management circuits. It is a three-terminal adjustable voltage regulator that uses an adjustable voltage reference. With its low output noise, low input voltage and current, and high accuracy, the MIC5281YMM-TR is ideal for use in all sorts of precision power-supply control, such as when any microcontroller or digital logic circuit requires a highly accurate and stable voltage for operating.
The MIC5281YMM-TR consists of a reference voltage source, an internal voltage reference, an adjustable output voltage, an error amplifier, and a pass transistor. This error amplifier receives an internal voltage reference of 2.5V and compares it with the external output voltage VOUT. If the output voltage VOUT is lower than the reference voltage, then the amplifier will increase VOUT in order to make it equal to the reference voltage. If the output voltage is higher than the reference voltage, then the amplifier will lower VOUT in order to make it equal to the reference voltage.
The main features of the MIC5281YMM-TR are its low quiescent current, low output voltage noise and ripple, fast settling time, and high output current. The MIC5281YMM-TR is also capable of tolerating input voltage ranges from 1.8 V to 5.5 V, and output voltage from 0.9 V to 5.5 V. It provides an adjustable output voltage with a maximum of ±2% accuracy. It is highly suitable for use in point-of-load (POL) applications, such as voltage translating and powering various devices.
The MIC5281YMM-TR is also highly energy-efficient, due to its low quiescent current (Iq). This ensures that minimal energy is consumed, resulting in a lower heat build-up and improved power efficiency. The adjustable output voltage of the MIC5281YMM-TR also renders it suitable for use in different system platforms, ranging from mobile to desktop applications. The internal error amplifier of the MIC5281YMM-TR will constantly monitor the external output voltage and, in case it deviates from the selected reference voltage, it will quickly return it back to the setpoint.
In summary, the MIC5281YMM-TR is a three-terminal adjustable voltage regulator that is suitable for a wide range of applications, such as cellular communication systems, embedded systems, power management circuits, and point-of-load (POL) applications. Its low quiescent current, low output voltage noise and ripple, and high output current, make it a highly energy-efficient and reliable voltage regulator for all sorts of power-supply control. Its adjustable output voltage and accuracy allows for a greater application versatility across different platforms.
