MIC5320-JJYMT-TR is a linear voltage regulator in the family of PMIC – voltage regulators, commonly known as linear regulators. The device is designed to be used in a variety of portable and mobile applications powered by one-cell Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) or multi-cell alkaline, nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd) and nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH). It is in a very small package with very low quiescent current of only 1 μA, making it an ideal power solution for small and portable products.

The MIC5320-JJYMT-TR is a low drop-out voltage regulator which offers excellent line and load regulation, as well as very low output noise. Additionally, the MIC5320-JJYMT-TR is thermally protected and features a very low quiescent current of only 1 μA, making it an ideal power solution for battery powered applications. Its input voltage can range from 3 V to 5.5 V and its output voltage is adjustable from 1.2 V to 5.5 V depending on the application.

The device is available in the 3 lead SOT-23 package and is easy to use with a minimum of external components needed. It is designed to be used in applications such as digital still cameras, personal digital assistants (PDAs), portable audio players and digital video players. Additionally, the device is suitable for use in other battery powered applications such as portable instruments, cellular phones and portable test equipment.

The input voltage can range from 3 V to 5.5 V and its output voltage is adjustable from 1.2 V to 5.5 V depending on the application. There is a power-on reset (POR) pin which keeps the output voltage low until the supply voltage reaches the rising POR voltage threshold. It also has under-voltage protection (UVP) and thermal shutdown protection (TSD), which keeps the output voltage low when the input voltage is below the UVP level or when the device temperature exceeds the TSD threshold.

The MIC5320-JJYMT-TR working principle is based on the utilization of an internal PMOS pass device that is connected between the input and output pins. The pass device is operated by an internal voltage reference and series pass transistor action. When the input voltage is greater than the voltage reference, the pass device is on and current will flow from the input to the output. When the input voltage drops below the voltage reference, the pass device is off and the output voltage will be maintained. Additionally, the internal voltage reference is programmed by an external resistor to provide adjustable output voltage.
