Microchip’s MIC5400YWM PMIC - LED driver offers an advanced level of LED lighting current control accuracy by leveraging a combination of common-mode pulse density modulator (PDM) and high-side driver architectures.
The MIC5400YWM is a 2.2V to 3.6V input, 0.5A output, wide VOUT/VIN (<50%) LED driver for either single or multiple LED lighting applications. This device contains useful features such as constant output current, adjustable LED current from 0.01A to 0.5A, low quiescent current, Wide VOUT and VIN range, LED fault detection, over temperature protection, and adjustable PWM dimming control.
The MIC5400YWM has a wide range of applications in the PMIC and LED driver markets, including general lighting, lighting multiplexing, automotive lighting, appliance lighting and many other automotive, consumer, and industrial lighting applications.
This device is capable of providing highly accurate constant current regulation for the LED string, and its wide and differentiable input and output voltage range offer designers a greater degree of flexibility in their designs. Additionally, the MIC5400YWM has low quiescent current, adjustable LED current from 0.01 A to 0.5 A, LED fault detection, over temperature protection and adjustable PWM dimming control. This device also includes a slew rate, low on-resistance MOS switch for setting the device\'s operating frequency and setting output current.
The MIC5400YWM is designed to be used in LED display applications, where it can be used to control and dim LED lighting, minimize flicker and regulate LED brightness. The device also has an integrated LED current limiter (LCL) architecture, which can be used to prevent LED overloading, while maintaining a very low conduction loss. It can also be used in low-voltage LED lighting applications such as accent lighting, where it can provide constant current regulation with minimal part count.
The MIC5400YWM works by using its common-mode PDM modulator to generate a duty cycle signal (D), which is used to regulate the LED current. This duty cycle signal is used to control the output current of the high-side driver. The PDM modulator regulates the LED current based on the current feedback loop, which is monitored by the LED current sensing pins (CS1, CS2).
