MIC5504-3.1YMT-TR is a low-dropout (LDO) linear voltage regulator from NXP Semiconductors. This voltage regulator belongs to the MIC5504 series of surface-mount, low-dropout (LDO) voltage regulators. The MIC5504 series of regulated output surface-mount LDO voltage regulators provide maximum output current of 500 mA for a single or multiple outputs. These regulators feature a quiescent current of 95 µA (typical) at no load and a wide voltage range of 1 V to 5 V, adjustable or fixed. The MIC5504-3.1YMT-TR is able to survive a dropout voltage of up to 150 mV. The regulator also features a current monitoring resistor to provide a simple output-voltage sensing function.The MIC5504-3.1YMT-TR is perfect for applications requiring superior accuracy, ultra-low quiescent current, and fast response. The voltage regulator offers excellent AC and DC performance, low noise and wide bandwidth output. It can be used in a variety of applications such as mobile phones, tablets, laptops, digital cameras, and GPS receivers.The working principle of the voltage regulator is to reduce the voltage supplied to it in order to maintain an output voltage that is more stable. The LDO regulator consists of an input voltage regulator, a voltage reference, and an error amplifier. The input voltage is regulated by the voltage regulator to ensure that the output voltage is within the allowable range. The voltage reference and error amplifier compare the input voltage to the output voltage and generate an output control voltage. This output control voltage is used to adjust the output voltage of the regulator.When there is a change in input voltage, the error amplifier detects the difference between the two, adjusts the output control voltage, and the regulator follows. This process is repeated with every change in input voltage, ensuring that the output voltage is constantly regulated and is within the allowable range.The MIC5504-3.1YMT-TR is also equipped with safety features such as thermal shutdown, in-rush current limiting, and over-current protection to ensure reliable and safe operation.
