Functional Description
MID400 optocouplers are a type of logic-output galvanic isolator, employed for long-distance signaling and data transmission. The logic energy created by a logic signal is transmitted optically, from the input chamber of the device to the output side. Coupling between the input and output of the device is achieved over a space of up to 5mm when nickel oxide or gold plated finishes are used. Because of this, MID400 products have particularly low crosstalk and reflection and minimize power loss in the device.
The device comprises of an input and output chamber, each separated by an internal partition. The LED is built into the input side and is activated by the logic energy. By doing so, the LED emits light onto a phototransistor, on the output side. The signal from the phototransistor is converted from optical energy to electrical energy. The electrical signal is then transmitted across the device\'s outputs. The input side is encapsulated in a plastic material which can act as surge protection when one of the LED is misused and the electrical shock is above 2000V.
Working Principle
MID400 optocouplers are designed to provide isolation between the input and output circuits, with a high peak working voltage of 400V, making them perfectly suited to a wide range of applications such as industrial automation, medical equipment, motor control, safety systems, and many more. The device’s built-in LED and phototransistor allows the MID400 to act as a high-speed data transmission link, providing signal isolation when transmitting data over distances in excess of 5mm.
This is achieved by modulating the output of the LED and then converting the optical signal into a converted electrical signal on the device’s output. This enables the MID400 to be used for high-speed digital logic and pulsed voltage applications, offering best-in-class noise immunity of background noise and EMI/RFI noise. The MID400 also has an ultra-low input capacitance of 15pF, ensuring minimal loss as the signal is transmitted through the device.
