The MK1709AGLFTR is a PLL clock generator designed by IDT (Integrated Device Technology), which is specially optimized to provide a high-stability signal reference for cellular and computing systems. The PLL operates on a wide input frequency range of 10MHz to 210MHz and provides a variety of output frequencies with low jitter and a duty cycle of 50/50. This clock generator is ideal for network synchronization, wireless infrastructure and industrial control applications.
The MK1709AGLFTR utilizes a novel PLL architecture to achieve a wide frequency range and improved Lock-on times of less than 50µs for frequencies with a spreading of 1 to 10. Additionally, the PLL generates various output frequencies from 10MHz to 2GHz, offering multiple types of outputs including sine-wave, CMOS, and LVDS. This eliminates the need to use dividers, which simplifies the design and leads to the implementation of smaller footprints and lower power consumption.
The core of MK1709AGLFTR is the Phase Lock Loop (PLL). In PLLs, an output frequency is generated by combining a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO), with a phase detector (PD). The VCO produces a reference signal, also known as the local oscillator (LO) signal, and the PD compares this LO signal to a reference signal from an external source. When there\'s a difference in phase between the two signals, the PD outputs an error voltage representing the phase difference. This error voltage is used to control the frequency of the VCO so that the phase difference between the reference signal and the LO signal is minimized. Once the phase error is minimized, the output frequency of the VCO is locked to its generated reference signal.
MK1709AGLFTR also offers on-chip voltage detection as well as power-down/up toggle functions, allowing the device to operate under fluctuating power conditions. Further, it provides a skip clock output, which allows the VCO to be switched, dynamically, between system and VCO clocks, Any changes in the reference clock frequency or power, the VCO can be switched, automatically, to power down mode, reducing power consumption while protecting the digital logic and the system clock.
The devices feature high jitter performance with cycle-to-cycle jitter of 0.7ps RMS, which is compliant with the ITU-T G.694.2 jitter requirements. Consequently, it improves timing accuracy and enhances system performance. Overall, the MK1709AGLFTR features an optimized architecture that provides a stable and reliable clock for various applications across many industries.
