Working Principle

The working principle of the MM74C922WM is based on a synchronous counters with parallel load capability and output logic. The counter has four clock inputs, that can be synchronized to the same source enabling the unit to be clocked from a single clock source. It has four parallel data inputs that are loaded into the counter, when a positive-going pulse is applied to the Load input (LOAD). When the carry output (COUT) goes high and remains high until the counter is reset to zero. If the reset (RST) has a logic high applied, the count can be reset to zero.

The count type and mode are selectable with the mode type inputs. The count type can be selected between down or up-counting, while the counter mode can be selected between divider or modulo. When the counter is in modulo count mode, the current count will be repetitively compared with the preset count value loaded at the parallel input and the COUT remains high until the Up/Down count reaches the preset count.

The decoded outputs are available at the 4-bit flip-flop, each output will have a logic high or low dependent on the current state of the counter.
