The MMA7260Q accelerometer also has a built-in temperature sensor to measure temperature variations and can be read out through an I2C interface.Applications
The MMA7260Q accelerometer is most often used in gaming devices like Xbox and PlayStation motion controllers as well as in the personal navigation devices like pedometers, altimeters, and digital cameras. It is also used in robotics, motion-activated switches, and medical sensors.Various gaming controllers use the MMA7260Q to detect movements and interact with games. Self-contained toys, like robotic animals, are also equipped with the MMA7260Q to detect any movement within range. Many medical applications also rely on the MMA7260Q to detect movement, like monitoring the heart rate.Working Principle
The MMA7260Q is capable of detecting acceleration over three axes (X, Y, Z) with an acceleration range of +/-1.5g for X and Y axes and +/-6g for Z axis. The MMA7260Q has two main components, which are part of the same electronic package: 1. A MEMS (MicroElectricalMechanical System) AccelerometerThe MEMS accelerometer consists of a silicon-based cantilever that is deflected when an external force is applied (such as static gravity or dynamic acceleration). The MEMS accelerometer in the MMA7260Q is capable of detecting movement in three axes. 2. An Integrated Circuit (IC)The Integrated Circuit is responsible for converting the mechanical movement detected by the MEMS accelerometer into a series of digital signals that can be read by the host system.
