It can provide an isolation conduction path between two circuits without compromising the isolation barrier, while providing superior signal fast transmission, low power consumption and high insulation resistance.The working principle of the MOC223VM is based on the photovoltaic effect. A light emitting diode (LED) emits a light when voltage is applied. When the light falls on a phototransistor, the phototransistor is enabled, conducting current according to its input resistance. The circuit output is enabled, providing an isolation conduction path between the two circuits. The MOC223VM is designed to work with an input voltage of 4.5V to 30V and an isolation voltage between 1.5kV and 2.5kV.The MOC223VM features an integrated protective circuit in order to protect the device from excessive input voltage, overcurrent and short circuits. It has a built-in rate limitation circuit that restricts the increase in collector current to avoid an instantaneous surge in the collector current, and a high reverse voltage blocking circuit prevents reverse voltage from exceeding the absolute maximum ratings. It also includes an automatic shutoff circuit which stops the LED when it is not active, providing excellent energy efficiency.The MOC223VM provides superior noise immunity, excellent common mode transient immunity and excellent surge immunity up to 2.5kV.
