The MOC3042FVM is an optoisolator of the Triac&SCR output type that provides a reliable form of electrical isolation in a wide variety of applications. It is an optoelectronic device designed to isolate low voltage logic circuits from higher voltage control circuits. The device contains a photocoupler in which an LED is optically coupled to a Triac&SCR driver IC chip.

The MOC3042FVM includes short-circuit protection and can be used to control 0.4A 120VAC loads. It also has a built-in zero-cross detector which eliminates false triggering due to the voltage surge during the turn-on time. The optocoupler requires a DC current from 1 to 10mA for correct functioning and can withstand up to a 400V voltage isolation.
