The MOC3061SR2VM consists of a Si gallium arsenide (GaAs) infrared light-emitting diode optically coupled to a silicon bilateral voltage triggered triac and a silicon bilateral voltage triggered SCR. The optocoupler has a 6-pad leadless surface-mounting package, consisting of an input LED terminal, an output SCR terminal, an output Triac terminal, and three connected common terminals.

The input LED terminal is used to drive the light-emitting diode (LED). A low voltage applied to this input is capable of producing a very large current for applicability to an AC load. The output SCR and Triac terminals are used to enable the SCR and Triac, respectively. The SCR terminal can be used to switch devices in half-cycle operation, while the Triac terminal allows them to switch devices in full-cycle operation.

The SCR is triggered when a forward voltage greater than its threshold voltage is applied to its cathode terminal, causing it to turn on. On the other hand, the triac is triggered when a sufficient gate current is applied regardless of the polarity. When the LED is on, the MOC3061SR2 VM output devices turn on and remain on until the LED becomes off.

The MOC3061SR2VM has two different sensitivities for the LED and SCR inputs of 2.5V and 1.3V, respectively, making it ideal for various applications. The forward current of the LED must exceed this value in order to activate the output. When the LED voltage drops below the threshold, the output devices are immediately turned off.
