The MOC8100SR2M optoisolator belongs to the family of transistor, photovoltaic output optoisolators. It is used to electrically isolate one part of a circuit from another part while still providing electrical control over the switched part.
The MOC8100SR2M’s small footprint and fast response time make it ideal for use in applications that require short trace lengths, tight spatial restrictions, high performance interface, or very precise tight timing control.
The MOC8100SR2M’s active output transistor can switch voltages up to 24 volts and currents up to 100mA, making it especially useful as an interface between a low voltage control device and a higher voltage powered device.
The MOC8100SR2M optoisolator consists of two integrated circuits in a 4-pin package, the phototransistor output and the IC housing. The phototransistor is mounted on the printed circuit board, and the IC housing with the integrated photovoltaic cell and transistor driver is secured by an isolation barrier layer.
The photovoltaic cell in the MOC8100SR2M optoisolator converts electrical energy from a light source into electrical energy. This energy is then used to drive the transistor output.
When the light source in the optoisolator is energized, the photovoltaic cell takes the electrical energy from the light and turns it into electrical energy that can be used to drive the transistor output of the MOC8100SR2M.
