The MP2307DN-LF is a current-mode DC-DC PWM step-down converter from Monolithic Power Systems, Inc. It is a small, low quiescent-current, high performance step-down DC-DC converter designed for a wide range of applications such as telecom, mobile phone, and other lightweight portable equipments.

The MP2307DN-LF has a fixed frequency current mode PWM controller that provides high efficiency with fast transient response. Working Principle

The working principle of the MP2307DN-LF is based on the current-mode pulse width modulation (PWM). When the input power is turned on, the PWM controller internal oscillator is started. The oscillator period is determined by an external capacitor and an external resistor. The oscillator output controls the ON and OFF times of the internal power MOSFETs. When the internal power MOSFETs is ON, the input voltage is connected to the output circuit, and the output voltage is regulated by an error amplifier. The output voltage is compared to an internal reference voltage, and the error amplifier adjusts the ON and OFF times of the MOSFETs so that the output voltage remains constant. When the load current increases, the error amplifier reduces the ON time of the MOSFETs, and reduces the output current.

The MP2307DN-LF also includes advanced features such as over-current protection and short-circuit protection. The over-current protection shuts off the internal power MOSFETs when the load current exceeds a certain limit. The short circuit protection will turn off the MOSFETs when a short circuit is detected on the output voltage. The over-temperature protection will also shut off the MOSFETs if the internal junction temperature exceeds an over-temperature threshold.
