MP2326GD-Z

The MP2326GD-Z is a synchronous step-down DC-DC converter power management integrated circuit (PMIC) based on Renesas Technology Corp’s integrated power block architecture. The MP2326GD-Z offers high efficiency performance and low noise operation from a single input supply of 2.5 V to 5.5 V. The synchronous rectification control design helps to achieve low total power loss and optimal power efficiency over a wide output load range. The MP2326GD-Z offers a 1.6 MHz switching frequency operation and uses a minimal number of external components. It is available in a 5 pin SOT26 package.

Thanks to its minimized components and its high efficiency, the MP2326GD-Z is well suited to power various digital and analog loads driven by a single supply. Its wide input and output voltage range, low voltage drop-out operation, and high performance over a wide range of operating temperature allows its use in a broad range of applications such as consumer electronics, LED lighting and industrial applications. It can also be used for powering high-performance frequency domain reflectometry (FDR) radar implementations or other, low power, and high-accuracy frequency-hopping signals in wireless communication systems.

The MP2326GD-Z voltage regulator works on the principle of switching mode power supply (SMPS). It uses a combination of pulse width modulation (PWM) and current regulation to efficiently convert the input voltage from 2.5 V to 5.5 V to an adjustable output voltage in a range of 0.8 V to one diode drop lower than the input voltage.

In the PWM mode, the MP2326GD-Z regulates the output voltage by switching a MOSFET. The duty cycle of the MOSFET switching is adjusted to control the output voltage. When the output voltage ramps up, the duty cycle is decreased to keep the output voltage at the set level. The duty cycle is also adjusted to keep the power losses at a minimum.

In the current regulation mode, the MP2326GD-Z regulates the output current. The current regulation is done by controlling the voltage in the inductor. When the output current is higher than the desired level, the voltage in the inductor is increased to lower the current. When the output current is below the desired level, the voltage in the inductor is decreased to increase the current.

When the load is enabled, the MP2326GD-Z runs in PWM mode and will switch to current regulation mode when the load steps down. This ensures that the output voltage and current is maintained within a certain range while the voltage in the inductor is kept at its minimum.

The MP2326GD-Z also provides short-circuit protection and over-temperature protection. Short-circuit input and output protection helps to protect the power circuitry from the overheating caused by short-circuit connection. The over-temperature protection helps to protect the circuitry by reducing the output current when the temperature in the power circuit exceeds the set temperature. There is also a sleep mode that helps to reduce the current consumption during standby.

The MP2326GD-Z has an integrated low-dropout linear regulator (LDO) that helps to maintain low voltage ripple and low voltage drop. The integrated LDO can provide an output voltage up to 0.7V (output voltage lower than the input voltage).
