1. Describe

The MP2617BGL-Z is a monolithic switch-mode battery charger with power path management for single-cell Li-Ion batteries in a variety of tablets and other portable devices. It integrates a synchronous buck regulator to provide a regulated voltage to the system output while charging the battery. The device supports USB and high power DC adapter inputs. In USB mode, the input current limit is programmable to 450mA or 825mA via logic pins to cover USB2.0 and USB3.0 specifications. When an adapter input is present, the input current can also be limited to avoid overloading the DC adapter. Input current limit programmable up to 3A. Intelligent power path management allows the MP2617A and MP2617B to regulate the system voltage, power external loads and simultaneously charge the battery independently. This allows the system to operate immediately even in the event of a lost or deeply discharged battery. When the input current limit is reached, the system load is given priority, and then the charger will charge the battery with the remaining current. Additionally, intelligent power path control allows internal connections from the battery to the system to supplement the load with additional power in the event that the system power demand increases beyond the input limit power or the input is removed. MP2617A/MP2617B are highly integrated, all power switches are integrated inside. No external MOSFETs, blocking diodes or current sense resistors are required. Two status monitor output pins are provided to indicate battery charge status and power status. Additional features include trickle charging, battery temperature monitoring, timers and on-chip thermal limit regulation. MP2617A / MP2617B are available in QFN 3mmx4mm package.
