Working Principle

The MP8761GLE-Z is based on Buck Switching Regulator principle. This switching regulator contains an active power switch, such an insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT). An external feedback voltage is compared to the internal reference voltage. When the input voltage is lower than the reference, the IGBT is driven ON, allowing current to flow from the input voltage to the output voltage, and the feedback loop is closed. When the input voltage is higher than the reference, the IGBT is driven OFF, and the output voltage declines. This cycle is repeated, allowing the output voltage to be equal to the reference voltage.

In order to achieve high power outputs, the MP8761GLE-Z has a low quiescent current, high efficiency, low output ripple, and low switching noise. It also has in-built over-current, over-voltage, under-voltage lockout and short-circuit protection.
