The MP9447GL-P is an integrated DC-DC voltage regulator type switching regulator developed by Monolithic Power Systems (MPS). This non-sync buck regulator is designed for high current applications in automotive, industrial and communications systems. It is capable of delivering up to 5A of output current from input voltages ranging from 6V to 34V. The primary benefit of the MP9447GL-P is its high efficiency and low RDSon, allowing for less heat dissipation, better power savings and higher performance. The MP9447GL-P is designed specifically for automotive applications, with an operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C and heat sink temperature range of -55ºC to +150ºC.

The operating principle of the MP9447GL-P is based on inductor-based buck topology, which offers high efficiency and fast transient response. The device requires an external inductor, which enables the voltage regulation by limiting the current flow into the load. The external inductor acts as the energy storage device, maintaining the current flow and helping to produce regulated voltage output. At the start of the cycle, the duty ratio of the driver controls the base current of the external power MOSFET, turning it on and allowing current flow through the inductor. The current flowing through the inductor increases as the MOSFET stays on, building up the energy stored in the inductor.

As the current increases, the inductor reaches its saturation point and the MOSFET begins to turn off. This reduces the current through the inductor and allows the energy stored in it to feed the output voltage. The duty ratio of the driver is adjusted to maintain the desired output voltage. At the end of the cycle, the MOSFET completely turns off, allowing the inductor current to go back to zero.

The MP9447GL-P features a low quiescent current, high switching frequency and low RDSon. The device operates over a wide input voltage range of 6V to 34V, making it suitable for various automotive applications. Additionally, the device includes thermal protection and reverse current protection, as well as protections against over temperature, over voltage and under voltage.
