MP9928GF-Z Application Field and Working Principle
The MP9928GF-Z is a 3A synchronous step-down DC-DC switching controller designed for high-efficiency, high-voltage, power conversion applications such as modern computing and communication equipment. Working Principle
The MP9928GF-Z operates based on constant frequency (256kHz) pulse-width-modulated (PWM) current-mode control. The power MOSFET is driven directly by an on-chip controlled high-side drive circuit, with an integrated voltage clamp circuit to limit the drive voltage in order to meet the input voltage rating. The on-chip synchronous rectifier is clocked at the same frequency as the PWM to synchronize the switching signal. During a PWM cycle, the high side of the synchronous rectifier is closed for the controlling period and the current through the synchronous rectifier is limited by the on-chip current monitor circuitry. In the low side of the synchronous rectifier, the low side drive is controlled by an external signal from the gate of the external MOSFET. The current through the synchronous rectifier is monitored to achieve the current limit protection.
The MP9928GF-Z also includes adjustable soft-start and short-circuit protection. The soft-start circuit provides a ramp function to control the output voltage to reduce the inrush current at turn-on. When there is an over-current situation, the MP9928GF-Z will immediately reduce the output current. In order to protect the device from over-temperature, the MP9928GF-Z includes an on-chip thermal monitor circuit, which will shut down the device when the temperature exceeds the specified limits.
