The device provides up to 4 output outputs with frequency range from 10MHz to 500MHz. All output clocks can be configured independently, which enables various combinations of different frequencies. Working Principle
MPC92429ACR2 consists of a frequency synthesizer and a high-performance Phase-Locked Loop (PLL). Incoming reference clock is first applied to the frequency synthesizer, which uses an internal divider and a programmable prescaler to generate an integer output frequency from the reference clock frequency. This is then sent to the PLL, which generates the output clock with a given spreading and duty cycle.
The frequency synthesizer allows almost any output frequency to be generated. It consists of an internal reference frequency generator with frequency range 10MHz to 500MHz, and a programmable prescaler that takes the reference frequency and divides it by any number between 1 and 254, to generate an output frequency. Through combinations of the reference frequency and various prescaler settings, the frequency synthesizer can be programmed to generate virtually any output frequency within the range.
The high-performance PLL takes the integer output frequency from the frequency synthesizer, and generates the output clock by means of a phase and frequency detector and a low pass filter. The output of the phase and frequency detector is then used to control the charge pump current and the loop filter that forms the VCO gain block. This provides the basis for locking the PLL to the reference frequency and to generate the output clock with a specified duty cycle.
The PLL can also be programmed to generate spread-spectrum clocking for reducing Electromagnetic Interference (EMI). It is able to support Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) and Direct Spread Spectrum (DSS) with different spreading modes, including center spread, up spread and down spread. The spread spectrum can be configured via an I2C/SPI interface with user-defined spread rate, spread range and spread disable/enable.
