MPC93H51ACR2 is a single-chip CMOS clock generator/synthesizer with programmable frequency and output control. It is designed specifically for low frequency clocks, such as general system timing and real-time clock applications. This clock generator/synthesizer is an analog/digital mixed-signal integrated circuit consisting of an oscillator core, reference clock input, and I/O block. The oscillator core consists of a temperature compensated reference X1 oscillator, AC-LF amplifier, voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) and power amplifier circuit. The reference clock input is used to provide a stable reference frequency to the X1 oscillator. The I/O block provides the driving capability for the differential and single ended output clocks. MPC93H51ACR2 incorporates a 7-bit divider, which divides the frequency of the input reference clock by 7. It also includes a 14-bit prescaler VCO selection circuit and an 8-bit prescaler selection circuit. The 14-bit prescaler allows the frequency of the reference oscillator to be further divided, while the 8-bit prescaler divides the VCO frequency. The 8-bit prescaler selection circuit is used to fine tune the output frequency. The frequency and output control of MPC93H51ACR2 is programmed through a simple serial interface. It supports various programming modes, including clock output selection, programmable output enable, power down and crystal external clock selection. It also has an I2C- and SMBus-compatible serial control. MPC93H51ACR2 is an ideal component for low clock and system timing applications, such as networking, telecom, home and industrial automation and instrumentation.
