The MSC8251TAG1000B is an embedded digital signal processor, or DSP. It is designed to help with a range of data processing and signal analysis tasks, ranging from digital audio and video processing to an array of communications protocols. The MSC8251TAG1000B integrates multiple processing resources, including an ARM7TDMI core processor and a suite of configurable peripherals, with an efficient and easily programmable set of interconnects. The hardware design provides hardware-level flexibility, scalability and suppresses the need for external glue logic.

The MSC8251TAG1000B family of DSPs includes a 32-bit ARM7TDMI processor that can operate up to 200 MHz, with a peripheral set that includes 16KB ROM and 32KB RAM for program storage and data; a BOM- configurable set of DMA channels; and a range of serial controllers. A variety of I/O ports provides an extensive range of possible system architectures, allowing applications to be easily implemented without the need for extra logic.

The software used for programming the MSC8251TAG1000B DSP is a combination of an extensive library of software functions and a full handset of programming languages and tools. The library functions allow the designer to easily integrate features into systems, while eliminating the need for programming code.
