Bridge rectifiers are capacitive devices used in direct current (DC) applications. They are composed of four or more diodes which are arranged in a bridge configuration. The bridge rectifier converts alternating current (AC) to DC and is used in power supplies and other built circuits to provide DC output. The MSDM200-18 is a bridge rectifier with a rating of 200 Amps and a forward voltage drop of 18 volts. The working principle of the MSDM200-18 is based on how a bridge rectifier works. When alternating current is applied to the center-tapped electrodes, and the left and right electrodes are connected to opposite rails of the power supply, the diodes will conduct. When the current changes direction, the diode previously in a forward-biased direction will become reverse-biased, and the diode that was previously reverse-biased will become forward-biased. This creates a continuous unidirectional current flow in the output.
The MSDM200-18 also boasts improved efficiency and harmonics reduction, utilising parallel capacitance to provide very low output ripple. This is achieved by utilising two separate diodes to deploy a pulse-width modulation and active rectification solution. The bridge rectifier is able to maintain a fixed voltage and current output due to its ability to reduce the power supply\'s switching frequency while monitoring the current output. This allows the bridge rectifier to automatically adjust the on/off ratio of the power supply to maintain a constant current.
The MSDM200-18 also utilizes a built-in surge protection feature to prevent overload damage, and includes high-temperature, low-impedance heat-spread layers to regulate and spread the heat generated during operation, providing a long-term delicate heat dissipation for improved performance and greater reliability.
