TVS – Diodes or Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS) Diodes act as clamping devices that help guard against electrical overstress caused due to external events. This mechanism helps protect delicate electronic components such as semiconductors from electrical faults and damage caused due to transients and surges. MSMCG110CA classified as an unidirectional device, offers a capacitance of 110pF which helps provide noise suppression protection.What Are TVS Diodes?

MSMCG110CA is a unidirectional or symmetrical TVS (Transient Voltage Suppression) device from ‘Microchip.’ It’s usually used in-line communication lines in order to protect them from voltage transients and modify the electrical characteristics of the line. It provides excellent protection for long lines and can cope with high data rate transients.The MSMCG110CA has a 55 Volt, low capacitance ESD diode with a capacitance of 110pF. It has a very fast response time, making it effective in protecting against overvoltage from external events. The diode also has an operating temperature range of -55 to +125°C, making it suitable for industrial applications. The diode also offers a high pulse surge current of 12 KA. Working Principle of MSMCG110CA
The MSMCG110CA can be classified as a symmetrical diode or a unidirectional diode. The MSMCG110CA responds to an external overvoltage by providing a path for the diverted current, thus preventing the device from experiencing overvoltages. This helps protect the device from voltage transients and spike voltages. When the voltage reaches the threshold voltage at the anode of the diode, it will turn-on due to avalanche breakdown. This allows the current to flow in the alternate path provided by the diode, thus reducing the current flow to zero.
