The MSMCGLCE30AE3 is a uni-directional TVS diode dedicated to protect sensitive electronics from high voltage spikes caused by electrostatic discharges or lightning events. It is a low capacitance diode that dissipates surges up to 30A (8/20 μs). This TVS diode is designed to limit the voltage across the protected component to a maximum of 28V.

The MSMCGLCE30AE3 is designed for automated pick and place production and is suitable for use in industrial, automotive and telecom applications. Its ability to operate at high temperatures, up to 150°C, makes it a reliable option for protecting sensitive electronic components in harsh environments such as automotive and industrial applications. The diode also features an active clamping voltage anti-parallel protection circuit that helps regulate the voltage across the protected component and prevents it from experiencing any damage due to high voltage transient pulses.

The working principle of the MSMCGLCE30AE3 involves the use of two on-chip parasitic diodes which become forward biased when the voltage across the protection device exceeds a threshold voltage. This threshold voltage is known as the clamping voltage, and can be adjusted depending on the application. When the voltage across the protection device increases, the current path formed by the two on-chip diodes allows the charge to be diverted to the clamping voltage element, which acts as a bidirectional switching device, allowing voltage to be clamped to the device’s threshold level. When the voltage drops back to normal, the protection diodes become reverse biased, and the current path is cut off.
