MSMCJ75CAE3 Application Field and Working Principle

TVS - Diodes, also known as Transient Voltage Suppression Diodes, are unidirectional semiconductor devices designed to protect components and systems from electrical transients, such as electrostatic discharge (ESD), lightning and electrical surges caused by inductive loads. They are commonly used on automotive electronic components, computer peripherals and mobile devices. The MSMCJ75CAE3 is a general purpose, low-power TVS diode designed to protect sensitive electronic components from voltage transients.

The MSMCJ75CAE3 features a low capacitance of 25pF for fast turn-on and off times, and a peak power rating of 500W at 10/1000uS for ESD and EFT protection. It also has a maximum forward voltage of 30V, a clamping voltage of 36.5V at 8A, and a peak pulse power rating of 148W. The device is available in a SOD-523 surface mount package and is lead free compatible.

Application Field

MSMCJ75CAE3 TVS diodes are widely used in many applications, including automotive electronics, computer peripherals, consumer electronics, and mobile devices. In automotive electronics, the device is used to protect vulnerable electronic circuits from ESD and EFT transients, and provide surge protection to critical components like airbags and ABS systems. In consumer electronics, the diode can be used to protect microcontrollers, memory chips, USB ports and other sensitive components. Lastly, in mobile devices, the device is used to protect against EFT and ESD transients that can damage integrated circuits.

Working Principle

The MSMCJ75CAE3 is a bidirectional device that works by clamping the voltage from an externally applied transient overvoltage to a predetermined voltage level. When an electrical transient exceeds the TVS diode’s clamping voltage, the device will turn on and shunt the electric current causing the transient to the ground. This allows the TVS diode to protect sensitive electronic components from potentially damaging voltages or currents. The device is designed to be robust enough to handle most common transients, but can be damaged by repeated transients or higher than expected transients.

In addition to these features, the MSMCJ75CAE3 also features a low leakage current before and after the transient, and a low capacitance of 25pF, which enables the device to respond quickly to transients and also ensures compatibility with high-speed digital circuits and systems.
