MSQ6911C, developed by STMicroelectronics, is a Segment Display Controller IC designed to drive alphanumeric displays. It is integrated with a matrix scanner system and dozens of compatible LED display modules. It’s ideal for applications such as billboards, clocks, electronic scales, CNC machines, production meters, gaming machines and so on.MSQ6911C is divided into two parts: the controller and the driver. The controller receives command from the system, and then generates the displayed numerical data, sending the data-out to the display driver. The driver includes up to 28 I/O pins connected to the display module and a voltage reference used to control the intensity of the display. The controller of MSQ6911C takes input signals from the system and controls the display through an internal data bus. The controller contains an 8-bit data byte register and a 4-bit command register, which allow the system to manipulate the display without any external drivers. The internal data bus allows the system to directly control the display without any additional components.The display driver of MSQ6911C is a set of 28 I/O pins that can control up to 28 displays. The driver includes two function blocks, the duty cycle generator and the duty cycle equalizer. The duty cycle generator can generate a waveform that has duty cycle from 1/1 to 1/8, while the duty cycle equalizer can equalize the waveform to give a more uniform display.The LED character and numeric display modules compatible with MSQ6911C come in multiple variations such as 5×7 and 7×5 dot matrix types, single-line and multiple line types, and single row, dual row, and multiple row module types.
