Alarms, buzzers, and sirens are used in applications to provide an audible warning for multiple applications, like fire detection, intruder alert, emergency shutdown, etc. The MSR320SR is a specialized piezo buzzer developed by BERGQUIST Company to provide audible alarm notifications in severe environments, such as extremely high temperatures, extreme environmental conditions, high vibration and dust applications.

The MSR320SR is a compact plug-in type buzzer that has an extended temperature range of –40°C to +105°C. The available audible sound source provides a thermal resistance between 700 and 907 ohms, which allows it to operate in temperatures with mechanical loads and vibes. The piezo element is protected from water and dust, which makes it suitable for use in industrial, aviation, military, and avionics applications.

The MSR320SR has two versions: a pulsed version and a continuous version. The pulsed version provides an impulse of sound with a standard frequency of 28kHz. The continuous version provides a continuous sound of 8kHz. The pulse frequency can be customized using one of four different frequencies (20KHz, 24KHz, 25KHz, or 32KHz). The audible sound level of the continuous version is rated at 80dB while the sound level of the pulsed version is rated at 90dB at 4 meters.

The MSR320SR offers maximum output power up to 3.2W, or typically 1W. It is RoHS compliant, which guarantees the product meets approved European quality standards, and is UL certified for maximum safety and reliability. Additionally, the piezo element is protected by an ABS plastic case that provides it with a waterproof and dust-proof environment.

The working principle of the MSR320SR is quite straightforward. It uses an electroacoustic transducer which is mounted in a housing, and the transducer vibrates to generate the audible alert sound. The amount of force exerted by the transducer is determined by the frequency of the electrical signal sent to it by the internal circuit. The internal circuit limits the amount of current allowed to pass through the transducer to ensure its reliability.

The MSR320SR is primarily used for indoor alarm applications where a standard siren or electric buzzer cannot be used due to extreme temperatures or vibration.
