MXLSMLG18CAE3 application field and working principle
Transient Voltage Suppressor Diodes (TVS - Diodes) are an important class of protection devices, used to protect a wide range of applications, from consumer electronics to industrial components. The MXLSMLG18CAE3 TVS-Diode is a Highly Reliable, Low Capacitance Standoff, Internal dV/dtClamp, Unidirectional and Bi-Directional TVS-Diode. This diode provides protection from damaging voltage transients generated by Global Lightning, Load Dump and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD). The MXLSMLG18CAE3 is designed to protect low voltage data line communications in automotive, industrial, and consumer applications.
The MXLSMLG18CAE3 is designed with advanced chip geometry and materials, resulting in High Performance, Low Power consumption and Low Clamping Voltage. It features High Surge Capability, High Reverse Stand-off Voltage, Low Leakage Current, Low Capacitance and Low Reverse Recovery Time. The device also offers Very Low Clamping Voltage, enabling superior protection when subjected to ESD and Load Dump events.
The low RDS (on) reduces power dissipation and increases ESD robustness. The MXLSMLG18CAE3 Standoff Voltage (Max) is 8.0V, Breakdown Voltage (Min) is 5.0V, and Maximum Leakage Current is 10 nA. The device can be used in applications where Line to Line and Line to Ground protection is required. The device is available in packages of SOD123, SOD123F, SOD12AV, SOD12AVF, SOD123S, SOD123SF, SOD123ST, SOD123STF, SOD123E, SOD123EF, SOD123ES, SOD123ESF and can operate at the temperature range of -55 to 125°C.
The MXLSMLG18CAE3 TVS-Diode works on a simple principle. The protective component is designed to “clamp” the voltage spikes and limit the current flow. A diode is an ideal protection for single line applications when used in series mode as the diode will “short” out the spike by rapidly clamping the voltage (clamping voltage) when a voltage surge occurs. This limits the current and dissipates the energy dissipation spikes, thus protecting the device from damage.
