NCL30160DR2G is a compact, low-cost, and highly integrated Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) LED dimming and boost converter powered by a single cell Li-Ion battery. It provides full dimming parameters without requiring programming. The NCL30160DR2G is a terminal block device designed to drive up to 8 separate LED strings in eight different current levels. It features adjustable-battery current limit and adjustable-LED string minimum current start and end.The NCL30160D2G, PMIC - LED Drivers, combines current-mode LED dimming with a regulated LED boost converter for LED output up to 3.3V. It provides maximum LED brightness control through Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) dimming up to 5kHz. The NCL30160DR2G can support a wide range of LED strings with internal current sense protection from single to 8 strings. The device provides current limitation to protect the high side Fet for failure prevention.NCL30160DR2G has multiple application fields. It enables applications such as automotive power headlights, taillights, and interior lamps. It can also be used in consumer lighting and industrial lighting. The NCL30160DR2G features a regenerative load dump converter which is suitable to charge or supply power to the MCU and peripherals. This device helps in reducing the number of components and design complexity. The device also features an adjustable 0.7V low voltage dropout (LVD) protection circuit.The NCL30160DR2G works on the principle of controlling LED current with programmable Pulse width modulation (PWM) dimming. It uses a flyback configuration to provide voltage to LED string with high efficiency. In the flyback topology, a single transistor is used which allows for low parts count and high efficiency. The device regulates the LED string current by switching the transistor on and off in the range of 8kHz to 5kHz. The external components include diode, inductor and multiple capacitors. The diode rectifies the input voltage for the boost converter topology.The PWM dimming boosts the LED current with open loop gain and closes the loop current by shutting off the high side switch. By controlling the high side switch duty cycle, the onboard control-IC varies the LED current to provide adjustable LED brightness and dimming capabilities. The LED driver also has a feedback terminal to detect the LED Bus Voltage. The device also has thermal protection, which prevents the over temperature situation.
