NCP114AMX360TCG is a newly released three-terminal linear PMIC voltage regulator designed to utilize a variety of input voltage sources, both ac and dc. It has been created for a range of applications, from automotive, industrial and consumer.

Working Principle of NCP114AMX360TCG

The NCP114AMX360TCG operates with a standard three-terminal linear regulator circuit. The circuit includes a reference, an error amplifier, a power transistor, and a compensation network.

The reference voltage is derived from an external resistor divider connected to either an AC or DC input voltage, required to provide an on-chip regulated output voltage. The error amplifier is then used to compare this voltage to the feedback voltage. When the voltage at the error amplifier output is equal to the reference voltage (zero differential voltage), the output voltage level is established.

The output voltage is set using a resistor divider connected to the output. This divider eliminates the need to use trim pots to change the output voltage and thus reduces the cost of the NCP114AMX360TCG.

The base voltage of the power transistor is controlled by the error amplifier and is proportional to the voltage difference between the reference voltage and the feedback voltage. When the output voltage is greater than the reference voltage, the base voltage of the power transistor is driven lower, decreasing the output voltage by reducing the current flow through the transistor.

The output of the NCP114AMX360TCG can be easily set to any desired value within its range by adjusting the output voltage divider network. The voltage range for NCP114AMX360TCG is 1V - 36V.
