The NCP1252EDR2G is an AC/DC converter providing all the featuresrequired to comply with EN 55022 class B and EMI standards. Thedevice offers a complete, multi-mode high-performance and costeffective solution suitable for medium power applications such as PCPeripherals, monitor, and other home applications.

The NCP1252EDR2G is equipped with an internal high voltageresonant controller and operates in either CCM or DCM. Theauxiliary winding is floating to allow either full-wave or half-waverectification. The device includes a precise current limit protectionagainst over-load, short-circuits and open-load condition. It alsocomes with two programmable soft-start times providing systemstability. The device is available in either a 25- pin, SSOP-A or20-pin TQFN package.

Illustrative Application

A typical application of the NCP1252EDR2G is shown in the blockdiagram below. It consists of a full-wave rectified AC-DCconverter providing a 6 V output voltage at a constant current of upto 1.2 A.

Principle of Operation

The device uses an internal high voltage resonant controllerand operates in either CCM or DCM depending on the operatingconditions of the application. The auxiliary winding is floating toallow either full-wave or half-wave rectification. The switchingfrequency is adjustable via the external RSET resistor. Theinternal current sensing loop senses the output current andcontrols the converter’s output voltage. The device includes aprecise current limit protection against over-load, short-circuitsand open-load condition.

The device also features a programmable soft-start time designedto limit the input inrush current by ramping up the outputvoltage over a period of 0.3 ms to 2.9 ms. The soft-start can bedisabled by using an external signal.
