The NCP1377PG is a flyback off-line power converter IC with integrated high and low side switches designed for use in a wide range of consumer and industrial applications. In particular it is well-suited to applications where a high efficiency, low standby power and low Bill-of-Materials cost are required. It uses a peak current mode control (PCM) architecture and offers adjustable switching frequency, primary peak current limit, valley current limit and primary valley switching voltage.
The circuit diagram of the NCP1377PG is relatively simple and consists of several basic elements. The NCP1377PG consists of two power switches, an integrated regulator, a current sense circuit, a feedback circuit and an output rectifier. The system employs the primary-side control topology, so there is no need to use a costly optocoupler or a secondary-side controller, which simplifies the design and manufacturing process.
The power switches of the NCP1377PG are integrated high and low side switches, which can respectively handle currents up to 10A and 44A. The high side switch is driven by a variable pulse width modulator (PWM) and its output current is sensed at the source of the switch by the current sense circuit. The PWM signal is then adjusted to regulate the output voltage of the converter. The low side switch is driven by the variable PWM signal from the integrated regulator and its output current is sensed at the source of the switch. Like the high side switch, its output current is modulated to regulate the output voltage.
The main features of the NCP1377PG include efficiency at >80%, low standby power consumption of 0.37W and a wide range primary input of 85VAC-265VAC. The range of switching frequencies is 30kHz-60kHz. It also includes adjustable primary peak current limit, adjustable Valley switching voltage and adjustable Valley current limit. The IC can be enabled/disabled with a signal from a logic signal. The output voltage is adjustable from 9V to 26V.
The NCP1377PG is well-suited to a variety of consumer and industrial applications. It is ideal for AC/DC converters, off-line switchers, laptop and desktop adapters and chargers, industrial power adapters, mobile phone chargers and USB power adapters. It is also suitable for water/room temperature control systems, dryers, air conditioners, motor drives, switch-mode power supplies and lighting applications.
